History Lecture: Roman Honor vs. Modern Morality
May 19, 2014 - 7:00pm

Learn how Roman honor and modern morality differ through an examination of historical texts, societal myths, and archaeological findings. The modern Western world is colored by the concept of Judeo-Christian morality, it affects all of us to some degree, even if we are not religious. Morality in our society alters our perspective on the present and can radically skew our view of the past. The Roman world is one that at times can seem very alien to us. Normal actions that we view now as immoral and even at times horrific were not only socially acceptable, but in fact honorable. See if you are able to step outside modern bias and truly interpret the past. Free.
